Ze Plane-z

The Chicago Air and Water Show was this past weekend. It started on Thursday at noon with a "practice round" occurring at the same time of a session of "don't have a heart attack, Emily." It is disturbing to be sitting in my 20th floor office, seeing the shadow of a plane on the building next to me, then a quick moment of silence, following by the window shaking roar of the engines.

Since I could not see much, but hear lots on Thursday, I had a 1/2 day on Friday so I decided to bike to the lake, up closer to our place, rather than downtown. It was pretty damn cool. The flight pattern is from Navy Pier (downtown) north, towards our place. The planes range from the Red Barons, to the Stealth, to the Blue Angels, and others in between. This year was the 50th Anniversary of the show, so comedian/actor Bill Murray (and Chicago native) raised money for charity by parachuting out of a plane, and landed on the beach. I missed that part. On the news yesterday, they said 3.1 million people came down to the show over the three days. Umm... that boggles the mind that they can estimate that number, but it really and honestly doesn't surprise me. People were EVERYWHERE.

On Saturday, we kicked it on the boat in the harbour (there were sooooooo many boats out on the lake, that with our "not great" sailing skills, decided it would be safer to say put) from about Noon until 1am :) We grilled out, met some new people, saw old friends, and had a great time in the evening chilling w/ beers, watching fireworks with Matt Melvin and his funny lady, Tabitha. It was great to see you guys!!

This little guy was putting on a show in the afternoon. He was LOVING the attention and having a blast. Luckily the planes didn't faze him a bit!
